Academic Teaching Responsibilities

Queensland University of Technology, School of Exercise and Nutrition Science, Lecturer (2013 - 2016)

XNB 381: Unit Coordinator, Neurological, Psychological & Musculoskeletal Disorders

I instructed this unit in 2014, 2015, and 2016. During this time I reviewed the unit curriculum, created new learning objectives, assessment and content. This unit was used to complete my Scholarly Research Project in Teaching and Learning that was a required component of the Graduate Certificate of Academic Practice. Learning Outcomes

  1. Describe selected neurological, psychological and musculoskeletal disorders and recognise their signs and symptoms using relevant clinical terminology;

  2. Describe the aetiology and epidemiology relating to these disorders;

  3. Explain the pathophysiological mechanisms by which each disorder restricts, prevents, or modifies movement;

  4. Discuss the clinical course, the approaches to diagnosis, treatment methods, and assessment of each disorder; and

  5. Develop a practical skill base of clinical assessment tools for the evaluation of functional capacity and movement limitation in clients with these disorders.

XNB 482: Lecturer: Clinical Exercise in Neurological Psychological & Musculoskeletal Disorders

I was part of the Teaching Team instructing this unit in 2015 and 2016. Click here to view the full course outline.

Learning Outcomes

  1. Apply knowledge of the aetiology and pathophysiology of, and the specific risk factors, contraindications and expected benefits of treatment for, neurological and musculoskeletal disorders;

  2. Demonstrate theoretical and applied knowledge of neurological and musculoskeletal disorder management including: diagnostic and interventional procedures, medications, exercise testing and prescription, the effects on range of motion, strength and proprioception, with respect to the rehabilitation program design;

  3. Demonstrate theoretical knowledge of psychosocial issues and interpersonal communication skills to the treatment of neurological and musculoskeletal disorders;

  4. Identify and respond as evidenced to psychological disorders and risk factors as relevant to various neurological and musculoskeletal disorders; and

  5. Develop clinical reasoning and demonstrate evidence-based exercise physiology assessment and treatment sessions.

XNB 484: Co-Unit Coordinator: Cardiometabolic and Pulmonary
Practicum A

XNB 485: Co-Unit Coordinator: Musculoskeletal and Neurological Practicum B

I provided administrative support to Site Supervisors, developed and administered Student assessment, and supported Students while on placement. A total of 200 hours is required for successful completion of the unit. All requirements of the practicum units were in line with the accreditation requirements of the Exercise and Sport Science Australia, Accredited Exercise Physiologist Certification Criteria.
