Awards & Recognition
University of Calgary, Student Union Teaching Excellence Award Nomination: KNES 479 – Advanced Fitness Appraisal and Exercise Prescription (2018)
The SU Teaching Excellence Awards is the only campus-wide recognition program for those instructors who make a long-lasting impact on students. This student nominated award recognizes U of C instructors who have had a positive impact on the student’s undergraduate learning experience and academic careers.
“The best aspect of Dr. Kendall’s teaching is how she takes the time to deliver knowledge in a way that encourages inquiry-based thinking and learning. Dr. Kendall created her lectures to ensure that she was posing questions to us as students so that we were actively engaged in the learning process. For example, in “Advanced Fitness Appraisal and Exercise Prescription”, Dr. Kendall designed a lecture to have us evaluate different popular and trendy exercise classes around the city. This allowed us the opportunity to take the exercise training principles that we learned and apply them by critically evaluating classes that we or potential clients could be attending.”
Queensland University of Technology, Vice-Chancellor’s Performance Award (2015)
The performance outcome I feel is the best example of my passion and ability to develop authentic experiential learning was being a leader in the establishment of a student-led exercise physiology clinic within the Queensland University of Technology (QUT) Health Clinics.
This award was in recognition of my contribution to the development of this experiential teaching and learning space, and in the creation of an engaging teaching environment that enables connection with and service to the community.
The exercise physiology clinic service grew significantly during my time at QUT to offer a wide variety of services including health risk screening, functional assessment, exercise prescription, and health education to those with cardiovascular, pulmonary, metabolic, neurological, and musculoskeletal conditions.
It successfully provides the fourth-year student cohort (80 students) with a real-world capstone learning environment and practicum placement opportunities throughout the year.
